R.I.P. Gorden Kaye

Actor Gorden Kaye - who was best known for his role as Rene in the long-running sitcom 'Allo 'Allo! - has died aged 75.
According to the star's former agent, he passed away in a care home.
Mr. Kaye will certainly be missed.

Manchester by the Sea (Kenneth Lonergan)

An Uncle is obliged to return home to care for his nephew after his brother dies. As soon as he finds out that he is to be the guardian, he struggles with the decision. Throughout the movie he recounts memories that caused him to leave Manchester and distance himself from the past.

Starring: Casey Affleck, Ben O'Brien, Kyle Chandler, C.J. Wilson, Michelle Williams, Lucas Hedges, Tate Donovan, Kara Hayward, Josh Hamilton, Anna Baryshnikov, Matthew Broderick

Why I loved this film: As I was watching the Golden Globes, every time this movie came up as being nominated I kept on thinking: 'Are you serious?'
I really believed it to be absolutely boring with no interesting storyline, just from watching the trailer.
Well, after watching it last night, I must say that I take it all back.
There are plenty of independent features out there that tackle the discomforting subject of family death and custody, but none of them handle it with the same level of detail, humanity, and personal application as Manchester by the Sea. Hence, I encourage all to see this masterful, humbling work when they get the chance to, but expect a few tears towards the end.
Also, kudos to Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams for their exceptional work. All awards are well-deserved!

R.I.P. Miguel Ferrer

Miguel Ferrer has sadly passed away at the age of 61 after a long battle with cancer.
I mostly knew him from playing Dr. Garret Macy on Crossing Jordan and I just cannot believe it! What an amazing actor and a life that was taken much too soon!
What can I say? TV shows will never be the same again.

NYPD RED 4 (James Patterson & Marshall Karp)

In a city where crime never sleeps, NYPD Red is the elite task force called in when a case involves the rich and famous. Detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald are the best of the best - brilliant and tireless investigators who will stop at nothing to catch a criminal, even if it means antagonising the same powerful people that they are supposed to be helping. When a glitzy movie premiere is the scene of a shocking murder and high-stakes robbery, NYPD Red gets the call. In a hunt that takes Zach and Kylie from celebrity penthouses to the depths of Manhattan's criminal underworld, they have to find the cold-blooded killer before he strikes again.

Quote: "Maybe I watch too many crime shows on TV, but I thought I'd tell you detectives the problem, you'd dig up some clues, and then you'd track these bastards down."

Why this book speaks to me: I found it to be highly entertaining with lots of action. I like the camaraderie and banter between Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald. They have more cases to solve than they can handle, but of course it all works out in the end.

Meryl Streep is the recipient of the honorary Cecil B. DeMille Award

These Golden Globes were filled with inspiring speeches, particularly Meryl Streep's. I was teary eyed for most of it.
Very moving, indeed!
