Salmon fishing in the Yemen (Simon Beaufoy, Paul Torday)

In this film, directed by Lasse Hallström, a visionary sheik believes his passion for the peaceful pastime of salmon fishing can enrich the lives of his people, therefore he dreams of bringing the sport to the not so fish-friendly desert. Willing to spare no expense, the sheik instructs his representative to turn the dream into reality, an extraordinary feat that will require the involvement of Britain's leading fisheries expert who happens to think the project is both absurd and unachievable. That is, until the Prime Minister's press secretary latches on to it as a 'good will' story. Now, this unlikely team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove that the impossible may actually become possible.

Starring: Amr Waked, Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor, Rachael Stirling, Kristin Scott Thomas

My thoughts on this film: I am not so sure what to make of it all. I found this to be a cute, amusing and at times not so amusing story. I loved the whole 'you have to have faith' bit plus the typical British jokes that no one seemed to get: On a Sunday instead of going to Church he'd rather go to Tesco's; How the British try to copy Eastenders in terms of classes; etc. There were some funny lines that made you laugh storywise, but nothing over the top. I would say this was a cute, family, typical British movie with the sickening happy ending.
